Easter, Lent, NYC

I did it. I successfully gave up desserts/junk food for lent. And yesterday I ate about 40 days worth of dessert: 3 bowls of ice cream, a chocolate shake, angel food cake and a york mint. Yum! (I didn't feel too guilty about this because the elevator in Alisa and John's apartment was out most of the weekend and they live on the sixth floor.)

I was in NYC for the weekend staying with Alisa and John and visiting a few college friends. On Friday, my sophomore roommate Judy somehow ended up with two tickets to the Knicks game...3rd row courtside seats! Not only were the players, like, right there, but Mayor Bloomberg was two rows directly in front of us and I had a cheeseburger and beer delivered to my seat.

On Easter, I went to church with Alisa and John at 8am. It was an Episcopal service and thanks to my parents never exposing me to church, I managed to screw up communion. I was even nervous about it and made a point to watch others to make sure I got it right. But no, John was in front of me and he didn't eat his wafer right away. What I missed was that he dipped it instead. I ended up still having my wafer in my hand while I was drinking the wine and then the guy had to order me to consume. Ugh. No one else would mess something up like that.

Things that baffle me

1. How do I know the words to songs I can't stand and always change the station on? I realized this when one of those Sarah McClouglin-like songs came on the internet radio where changing stations isn't convenient so I sucked it up and listened and seemed to know exactly what words were coming next. Not the kind of intelligence I want.

2. I've had a loaf of bread sitting in my car on the floor of the back seat for a few months now. There is absolutely no sign of mold on it. It's Arnold brand on which I've seen mold grow plenty of times. I'm thinking it's something about the back seat floor in my car. I'm keeping it there just to see what happens.

And for an update on my life:

I got a very unexpected and generous bonus at work which is allowing me to take the train to NYC this weekend and also to go to Las Vegas for a weekend in May. (Any gambling tips are welcome...I know to stay away from slot machines.) Kickball and softball seasons are starting up...I plan to kick butt in flip-cup.
